H2e Power to launch Himachal Pradesh's first green hydrogen project

H2e Power Systems has secured a tender from Oil India (OIL) to develop a 1 MW green hydrogen project in Himachal Pradesh. The project is anticipated to be operational within 18 months of receiving the award letter.

In December 2023, Oil India sought bids for a green hydrogen project in the state, featuring a generation capacity of 17 kg/hr. H2e's innovative steam electrolysis system utilizes solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) technology, resulting in lower hydrogen production costs compared to traditional methods. Hydrogen output will range from 0 to 125%.

Green hydrogen supply will be reported quarterly, with penalties of Rs 350.00 ($4.16)/kg for any shortfalls.

In 2023, the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) program was launched under the Green Hydrogen Mission, with a budget of Rs 174.9 billion ($2.08 billion). The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has allocated Rs 4 billion ($47.64 million) for green hydrogen hubs, aiming to establish two initial hubs for large-scale hydrogen production and utilization.

The MNRE defines green hydrogen as having emissions below 2 kg CO2 equivalent/kg H2. Guidelines have been issued for incentive disbursement of up to 450,000 metric tons per year of green hydrogen under Component II of the SIGHT program.

In August 2024, the National Institute of Solar Energy invited proposals to create testing facilities and frameworks under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
