Govt OKs Rs 135.95 bn for 9 GW renewable energy projects in 2 states

The Centre has approved new Inter State Transmission System (ISTS) schemes aimed at facilitating the evacuation of 9 GW of renewable energy (RE) power from Rajasthan and Karnataka.

These schemes, with a total budget of approximately Rs 135.95 billion, will be implemented through Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB). They are part of a national effort to achieve 500 GW of RE capacity by 2030, with 200 GW already connected.

The approved schemes include the Rajasthan Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) initiative, which will manage the evacuation of 4.5 GW of RE power from three major complexes in Rajasthan. This includes 1 GW from Fatehgarh, 2.5 GW from Barmer, and 1 GW from Nagaur (Merta). The power generated will be transferred to the Mainpuri Region, Fatehpur, and Orai in Uttar Pradesh. The project is expected to be completed within two years, at an estimated cost of Rs 122.41 billion.
