State-owned Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) has won a Rs 75 billion contract to establish an 800 MW unit at the Ukai Supercritical Thermal Power Plant in Gujarat. The order was placed by Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Ltd (GSECL) under international competitive bidding.
The project, located in Tapi district, will be executed on an Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) basis. BHEL’s scope of work includes design, engineering, manufacturing, supply, testing, and commissioning, along with all necessary electrical, civil, and structural works. Additionally, the package includes highly efficient emission control equipment.
Notably, BHEL had installed the first thermal unit at Ukai in 1976, cementing its long-standing association with the plant. As India's leading power equipment manufacturer, with over 1,70,000 MW of installed utility power capacity, BHEL continues to contribute significantly to the country’s energy security and self-reliance in the power sector.
