Adani Energy signs agreement for electricity transmission in Kenya
Wandayi emphasized that the initiative will involve the development, financing, construction, operation, and maintenance of critical transmission lines and substations throughout Kenya. Adani Energy Solutions Ltd will secure all funding needed for the project, estimated at 95.68 billion Kenyan shillings (approximately USD 736 million), through a competitive bidding process managed by Ketraco and AESL. Notably, the Kenyan government will not incur any costs related to this project.
Under the agreement, AESL will operate the transmission lines for three decades before transferring ownership and assets to Ketraco. The project includes the construction of three transmission lines and two substations.
Wandayi also noted that Ketraco is collaborating with Africa 50 and Power Grid of India for additional transmission projects. This partnership reflects the Kenyan government’s commitment to strategic collaborations that align with its development objectives and ensures the long-term stability of the country's energy supply.
