Union Power Minister Manohar Lal informed the Lok Sabha that five hydroelectric projects with a combined capacity of 3,090 MW are currently under construction in Jammu and Kashmir. 

The projects include Ratle (850 MW), Pakal Dul (1,000 MW), Kiru (624 MW), Kwar (540 MW), and Parnai (38 MW). Notably, no hydro projects are under construction in Ladakh. 

Of these, four major projects—Ratle, Pakal Dul, Kiru, and Kwar—are located in Kishtwar district and are being developed through central and joint venture models. The Ratle project, which had previously faced delays, has been revived through a Memorandum of Understanding between NHPC, JKSPDC, and the J&K Power Development Department. 

The Parnai project in Poonch is being developed solely by the J&K State Power Development Corporation. 

The minister also highlighted government efforts to ensure timely execution of these projects, including IT-enabled monitoring systems, dispute resolution frameworks, and policies to reduce delays and cost escalations.
