NHPC to set up over 27,000 MW renewable energy projects

Chief Managing Director of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) Limited, Abhay Kumar Singh told the media that the company has planned to set up hydropower and solar power projects of over 27,000 MW capacity in nine Indian states and Nepal.

He said that the projects would be set up in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan and Maharashtra.

NHPC is in discussion with the states which are interested in the projects.

He added that Nepal has also shown interest in hydropower projects in a joint venture with NHPC. Recently, Singh met the PM of Nepal.

NHPC will make a capital expenditure of Rs 10,000 crore for the project. The company will increase its profit from Rs 3,500 crore to Rs 5,000 crore to increase its CAPEX to Rs 13,000 crore.

The Subansiri lower hydroelectric project of 2,000 MW capacity in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh is processing well. The 2,880 MW dam project in Dibang will begin soon.

Singh said that currently, NHPC is working on 6,000 MW capacity projects and another 9,000 to 10,000 MW in the pipeline. The company expects to meet the target of 50,000 MW capacity, including solar power.
