Goa launches solar based electrification programme for remote villages

Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) subsidiary Convergence Energy Services Ltd (CESL) has entered a pact with Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA) to install solar PV-based home lighting systems for remote villages in Goa.

As a part of the agreement, CESL will install and maintain solar PV systems for five years under the Remote Village Electrification (RVE) programme of the Goa government.

CESL will undertake the project across villages of Goa in coordination with Gram panchayats. This project will deliver electricity through renewable energy to areas in Goa where grid connectivity is not feasible.

The company cited energy access as a basic need for all homes and a basic necessity for development. According to the company, the project with GEDA will be important in India's energy transition and will encourage other states' energy departments.

EESL is an energy service company of the Indian government and is the world's largest public energy service company. It is fully government-owned and a joint venture of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC Ltd), Power Finance Corporation, Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd (REC Ltd), and POWERGRID. The company was formed under the Ministry of Power to facilitate energy efficiency projects.
