Transport Minister to unveil 100% ethanol-powered Innova

The Union Road Transport and Highways Minister has announced the launch of a 100% ethanol-fueled variant of Toyota's Innova car on August 29. The upcoming Innova model will be the world's first BS-VI (Stage-II) electrified flex-fuel vehicle.

Expressing interest in biofuels since 2004, the Minister believes biofuels can significantly reduce foreign exchange spent on petroleum imports, contributing to India's self-reliance. He emphasises the need for more sustainable actions to combat pollution and protect the environment. The Minister also highlighted the completion of various road projects worth Rs 650 billion , including the Dwarka Expressway, by year-end.

Additionally, he underlined the adverse effects of chemical fertilisers and pesticides on health and promoted organic farming for sustainability. The Minister aspires to lower logistic costs through increased highway construction.
