Vedanta to decarbonise its aluminium business operations

Vedanta Limited has planned the decarbonisation of its aluminium business works in the longer run.

Vedanta Aluminium has set a goal of attaining a 24% drop in GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions intensity by FY25, the firm said in its Sustainable Development Report (SDR) for FY21. The baseline for emission decrease is 2012.

Climate action initiatives have led to a 21% drop in GHG emissions intensity in the aluminium business as against FY12, the firm said.

As per the company, 118% of the produced ash is used in avenues like mine backfilling, raw material for cement and brick production, road development, and low-lying area filling.

Vedanta Aluminium's Sustainable Development Report titled 'Nature, Nurture, Future', encapsulates the business' performance across essential sustainability factors, like water management, energy and climate change management, air quality and emissions control, social impact and governance, biodiversity management, health and safety, among others for the FY21 performance period.

Formulated following the Global Reporting Initiative Standards, the report summarises Vedanta Aluminium's approach to sustainable and responsible development aligned to United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) Principles and United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs).
