Coal Production from Captive and Commercial Mines Rises to 167.36 MT

The Ministry of Coal announced that total coal production from captive and commercial mines for the financial year 2024-25 reached 167.36 million tonnes (MT) by February 2025, reflecting a 32.53% year-on-year increase from 126.28 MT produced by the same period in the previous year.
Coal dispatch also saw robust growth, rising to 170.66 MT compared to 128.45 MT last year — a 32.86% increase — ensuring consistent coal supply to key sectors like power, steel, and cement.
Notably, the Bhaskarpara Coal Mine, operated by M/s Prakash Industries Limited, began production on February 15, 2025, with a Peak Rated Capacity (PRC) of 15 MT.
The Ministry of Coal remains focused on fostering a sustainable and efficient coal sector, aligning with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision of establishing a developed India by 2047. Through enhanced energy security and economic progress, the coal industry is set to play a vital role in achieving these national goals.
