Bihar's first cement free geopolymer road by NTPC Kahalgaon.

In a significant stride towards sustainable infrastructure, Shri Ajay Sharma, Head of Project at NTPC Kahalgaon, inaugurated a Geopolymer Road on World Environment Day. This innovative project is the first of its kind in Bihar, constructed entirely without cement.

Spanning 2.9 kilometers, the Geopolymer Road marks a milestone for NTPC Kahalgaon. It utilises 2000 MT of fly ash, a byproduct of power plants, and Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slags (GGBS) from steel plants, combined with chemicals like Sodium Hydroxide and Sodium Silicate. This eco-friendly approach not only reduces greenhouse gas emissions but also promotes the effective utilisation of industrial waste.

Complementing the road inauguration, NTPC Kahalgaon unveiled ?The Statue of Green Innovation?, also built using geopolymer concrete. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the benefits of adopting eco-friendly construction materials.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Ajay Sharma emphasised the project's environmental significance and its potential to inspire more sustainable construction practices. Reiterating NTPC?s commitment to environmental stewardship, Shri Ajay Sharma highlighted the importance of ash utilisation and eco-friendly solutions in NTPC Kahalgaon's operations. He emphasised that the innovative use of fly ash and GGBS in constructing the Geopolymer Road exemplifies the company's dedication to sustainable practices.

By repurposing industrial waste materials, NTPC Kahalgaon not only mitigates environmental pollution but also promotes the adoption of greener construction methods.

The Geopolymer Road is expected to be more durable and sustainable than conventional concrete roads, setting a new standard for future infrastructure projects in the region.
