Arunachal Hosts Global Agri Meet to Boost Exports

The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), in collaboration with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh, organised an International Conclave cum Buyer-Seller Meet (IBSM) at Tawang’s Kalawangpo Convention Hall to promote agri and processed food exports from the North Eastern Region (NER). Addressing the event, Chief Minister Pema Khandu reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening Arunachal’s agri sector and uplifting farmers and women-led Self-Help Groups. He highlighted the export potential of the state’s GI-tagged products like Khamti Rice, Mandarin Orange, Kiwi, Yak Cheese (Churpi), and more, particularly to ASEAN and Southeast Asian countries. Agriculture Minister Gabriel Denwang Wangsu stressed the importance of building farmer awareness and capacity to ensure fair pricing for their produce. He lauded the region’s farmers for consistently delivering high-quality fruits and value-added products like wines. APEDA Chairman Abhishek Dev called for identifying Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) from Arunachal for participation in major trade fairs. He also reiterated APEDA’s support in areas like infrastructure development, capacity building, branding, and international promotion of the state’s agricultural output. The conclave enabled direct interaction between 11 international buyers from UAE, Nepal, and Bhutan and 17 Indian exporters from states like Assam, Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, and Gujarat, alongside 50 FPOs and over 350 local farmers. APEDA facilitated productive dialogue across sectors such as organic produce, millets, honey, fruits, vegetables, processed foods, spices, and tea, unlocking the export potential of Arunachal’s agri-business. The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a “Viksit North East”, supported by coordinated efforts from APEDA, the Ministries of Commerce, Agriculture, and North Eastern Region, alongside the state government. APEDA, a statutory body under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, plays a pivotal role in enabling Indian agri exporters and FPOs to access global markets. (PIB)
