A flyover which was under construction between the new KSRTC Bus stand and NR Circle in Hassan, Karnataka, collapsed on March 12. Six 50-ft-high concrete beams collapsed and broke into pieces, as reported by the Indian Express. No casualties were reported.

People of the locality believe that the poor quality of the work has led to the incident and blame the contractor for the same, reports Indian Express.

The contractor or the engineer is reportedly known to be absent when the incident occurred, and even during construction. It could have led to a major tragedy and even loss of life if people were underneath the flyover when it crashed. A local also exclaimed that the contractor should be punished.

The under-construction flyover across the Hassan-Mangaluru railway level crossing, sanctioned about eight months ago, is a much awaited project. It was taken by by a JV between the Centre, the Karnataka Government and the South Eastern Railway, at Rs 420 million.
