The minister mentioned that plans are underway to establish new generating units at the existing thermal power plants in Bakreswar, Sagardighi, and Durgapur Projects (DPL).

He added that the tender process is currently in progress for two super-critical thermal power units, each with a capacity of 800 megawatts, totalling 1,600 MW, at Sagardighi. Additionally, a 660 MW unit is planned for Bakreswar, and another 660 MW generating unit for Santaldi.

Biswas also highlighted that the process for establishing a 12.5 MW solar generation unit in Purulia is ongoing. Furthermore, solar generating units with capacities of 20 MW at Sagardighi, 20 MW at Santaldih, and 10 MW at Bakreswar are also planned.

He mentioned that there are further plans to set up a 1,000 MW pumped storage-type hydro-electric power plant in Purulia.

The minister emphasised that West Bengal ranks 17th among all states in the country in terms of power tariff rates, with the per-unit charge being Rs 7.12.
