UP Govt Releases Rs 1.96 Billion for Noida Airport Cargo Road

The Uttar Pradesh government has sanctioned Rs 1.96 billion to construct an 8.25 km expressway to the cargo terminal and a 750-metre VVIP corridor for the upcoming Noida International Airport near Jewar, the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida) announced.

The 8.25 km, 30-metre-wide cargo terminal road is expected to be completed within four months, while the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will develop the 750-metre, 60-metre-wide VVIP road. Yeida signed an agreement with NHAI on December 6, 2024, to build these key links, which are expected to enhance connectivity as airport traffic increases.

The VIP loop will provide a dedicated emergency route between the Noida airport and the expressway. Meanwhile, the Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) reported that the terminal building is nearing completion, with flooring, escalators, and the baggage handling system in place, and roof construction underway. Over 90% of the Rs 100 billion first-phase budget has already been utilised.

The airport is scheduled to start operations from April 17, 2025, and is expected to handle 12 million passengers annually in its first phase. Plans for the second phase, including a Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) hub and additional runway development, are also in progress, with plot allotment tenders being prepared.
