Stretching 160 kilometers and developed at a cost of Rs 26.60 billion, the highway is designed to accommodate speeds exceeding 100 km/h, ensuring faster and more efficient transportation. The final phase of construction includes a railway overbridge in Ujjain and minor work extending to Kheda Khajuria, expected to be completed within the next three months. Additionally, the highway will establish a direct link to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, further strengthening the regional transport network. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has also sanctioned an extension of the project to Shamgarh, which will improve accessibility for commuters.

Construction commenced in November 2022 under NHAI’s supervision, with three companies—GHV, Ravi Infra, and MKC Infra—assigned different sections. While Ravi Infra and MKC Infra have completed their portions, GHV encountered delays due to land acquisition challenges. However, efforts have been intensified to finalize the remaining 10 per cent of the work. Originally scheduled for completion by July 2024, the project deadline was extended by 207 days due to these delays. Authorities remain confident that the highway will be fully operational within the next month.

Once completed, the Ujjain-Garoth highway is expected to enhance daily commutes, improve regional infrastructure, and contribute to economic growth by facilitating smoother transportation and trade.
