TRUMPF Launches AI-Driven 'Cutting Assistant'

In a significant technological leap, TRUMPF has introduced its new AI-powered “Cutting Assistant” during the INTECH trade fair. This innovative application aims to enhance laser cutting edge quality while addressing skilled labor shortages and boosting productivity. The Cutting Assistant is compatible with all TruLaser series machines featuring a power output of 6 kW or more, allowing a wide range of manufacturers to benefit from this cutting-edge solution.

AI-Powered Edge Optimization

The Cutting Assistant uses artificial intelligence to independently determine the optimal parameters for laser cutting. To use the system, production employees simply take a photograph of their component’s cut edge with a hand scanner. The AI then evaluates the edge quality by analyzing criteria such as burr formation. Following this assessment, the optimization algorithm suggests improved cutting parameters to enhance quality.

The machine then re-cuts the sheet metal, and if the desired quality is not achieved, users can repeat the process until they obtain the perfect cut. According to TRUMPF product manager Louisa Peters, “With the Cutting Assistant, TRUMPF is once again demonstrating that we are a pioneer in the use of AI in industrial manufacturing. Users aren’t just empowered to combat the skilled worker shortage, they’re also able to save time and money. This gives them a competitive edge when it comes to productivity.”

Simplified Process with No Programming Required

The Cutting Assistant eliminates the need for extensive operator expertise by allowing optimized parameters to be seamlessly integrated into the machine’s software without programming. This is particularly valuable for companies struggling with limited skilled manpower, as it minimizes errors and reduces the time required to fine-tune the cutting process. After approximately five runs, the AI-powered system ensures perfectly cut edges without requiring specialized knowledge from users.

Continuous Improvement and Data Security

TRUMPF continues to improve the Cutting Assistant by incorporating real-world data from its users. As more companies use the solution, the self-learning system becomes faster and more reliable, continually enhancing its performance. Despite leveraging data from various applications, TRUMPF assures users that their proprietary knowledge remains secure and is not distributed by the algorithm. Regular online updates are provided to ensure users have access to the latest improvements.

Revolutionizing Laser Cutting

By introducing the Cutting Assistant, TRUMPF is setting new standards in AI-driven manufacturing. The company’s high-tech solution not only offers better precision and efficiency but also provides an invaluable tool to address the global shortage of skilled workers. As the Cutting Assistant continues to evolve, TRUMPF is well-positioned to maintain its leadership in the industrial manufacturing sector.
