As part of this expansion, 3,440 MW of thermal power capacity will be commissioned, along with 500 MW from Pumped Storage Plants. Additionally, 2,500 MW of nuclear power capacity will be added in the central sector, with Tamil Nadu receiving an allocation of 1,251.8 MW.

The renewable energy sector is also expected to witness significant growth, with around 6,900 MW projected to be added. This expansion will be supported by various government initiatives, including the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Urja Suraksha Evam Utthaan Mahabhiyan (PM-KUSUM), PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, and the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) Scheme for offshore wind energy projects.

Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) has outlined a detailed plan to commission key thermal power projects within the next two years. These include North Chennai Stage III (800 MW), Udangudi Stage I (2X660 MW), and Ennore SEZ (2X660 MW).

Additionally, the commissioning of the 2X1000 MW Kudankulam Stage III and IV nuclear reactors, along with the 500 MW Fast Breeder Reactor at Kalpakkam, will further enhance the state's power supply. Tamil Nadu is expected to receive 1,251 MW from these projects.

With these developments, the state aims to strengthen its energy infrastructure, ensuring a stable and sustainable power supply to meet growing demand.
