Thiruvananthapuram Metro Project Delays Expected

The Thiruvananthapuram Metro rail project faces further delays as the state government's decision on Kochi Metro Rail Limited's (KMRL) proposed routes remains pending. The finance department is still reviewing the feasibility report submitted by KMRL over a month ago, delaying the project's progress. This report evaluates critical decisions, including alignment options for the Metro system and the inclusion of underground sections.

Key recommendations include the possibility of a Metro line passing through the Medical College Junction and adjusting the alignment due to space limitations along NH 66. Additionally, the government is focused on minimizing the impact on heritage areas and optimizing logistical efficiency. Once the state's approval is obtained, KMRL will proceed with revising the detailed project report (DPR) with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). The final cabinet decision is expected to occur within the current financial year.
