Telangana Invites Bids for 250 MW/500 MWh Standalone BESS

Telangana Power Generation Corporation (TGGENCO) has announced that it is inviting bids for the establishment of a 250 MW/500 MWh standalone battery energy storage system (BESS) pilot project in the state.

The project is eligible for viability gap funding of Rs 2.7 million (~$32,114) per MWh, or 30% of the capital cost, whichever is lower. The deadline for bid submission is February 21, 2025, with the opening of bids scheduled for February 25.

The selected developers will be responsible for setting up the BESS using their chosen battery technology and connecting it to the state transmission network. The BESS will be charged from the state's distribution companies (DISCOMs) and will supply power per instructions from the state load dispatch centre.

Developers must ensure a minimum system availability of 95% annually and achieve an 85% monthly AC to AC roundtrip efficiency. The successful bidders will receive land on lease from TGGENCO at zero cost, subject to a suitable agreement.
