Telangana Greenlights Metro Expansion to Hyderabad Suburbs

Metro services are set to extend to the suburbs of Hyderabad, as Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has instructed the preparation of a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for new metro corridors stretching 22 km from Jubilee Bus Station (JBS) to Shamirpet.

Metro Rail MD NVS Reddy has been tasked with submitting the DPR for these corridors to the central government for approval as part of the Metro Rail Phase-2 project. The new routes will extend the metro service from Secunderabad Paradise Circle to Medchal, covering approximately 23 km.

With Hyderabad rapidly expanding due to growing business complexes and international companies, traffic congestion has become a major issue in the suburbs. The expansion of metro services aims to alleviate this problem.

Under the plan, metro services will extend from Paradise in Secunderabad to Medchal and also connect to the suburbs from JBS to Shamirpet. Once approved by the central government, the service is expected to begin within 1-2 years.

The new routes will connect areas like Tad Bund, Boinapalli, Suchitra Circle, and Gundlapochampally, reducing travel time to just 30 minutes, compared to the current one-hour journey by other modes of transport.
