Tata Power-DDL, Siemens to install over 2 lakh smart metres in Delhi

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power DDL) and Siemens Limited have announced the installation of smart metering technology in north Delhi for over 2 lakh smart metres.

Siemens-controlled state-of-the-art EnergyIP Meter Data Management (MDM) system enables timely and accurate collection of electricity metre data, resulting in increased visibility of the consumer network and reduction in carbon emissions.

Ganesh Srinivasan, CEO of Tata Power-DDL, noted that they have further strengthened the energy distribution network in their area of operation by leveraging state-of-the-art technologies in collaboration with Siemens.

Digital technologies have allowed them to monitor critical functions of energy distribution in real time, resulting in increased operational efficiency and productivity, and have proven invaluable during the Covid-19 pandemic, according to Srivivasan.

The technologies will also assist the company in ensuring a more efficient and reliable power supply for its customers, as per the company.

This implementation will also provide consumers with real-time consumption monitoring and better energy usage management, as well as outage and low power factor alerts, cites the report.

Tata Power DDL, a joint venture between Tata Power and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, distributes electricity to a population of 7 million people in north Delhi. The technologies at Siemens help them meet their Environmental, Social, and Governance(ESG) goals of increased energy efficiency, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and improved employee and public safety.

They want to use their technologies to help their customers master their digital transformation and sustainability challenges.

According to Robert H K Demann, head of smart infrastructure at Siemens Limited, the implementation of Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is aligned with the Smart Meter National Programme and will support the deployment of Smart Grids across the country.
