Tamil Nadu Sets Deadlines for Building NOCs
The Tamil Nadu government has implemented new deadlines for the issuance of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for building approvals. Under the new guidelines, authorities are mandated to issue NOCs within 15 to 30 days, depending on the type of project, aiming to streamline the approval process and reduce delays in construction projects.
This initiative is part of the state’s efforts to improve the ease of doing business, particularly in the real estate and construction sectors. The move is expected to enhance transparency and speed up the clearance process for developers, ensuring that residential, commercial, and industrial projects progress without unnecessary hold-ups.
The new timelines will apply to various NOCs, including those related to fire safety, water supply, environmental clearance, and power connections. The state government’s decision is also expected to encourage private investment and improve the overall development framework in Tamil Nadu.
Real estate developers and stakeholders have welcomed the move, acknowledging that the new deadlines will reduce bureaucratic bottlenecks. However, experts have highlighted the need for ensuring strict enforcement of the timelines to avoid future delays and improve efficiency across the state's urban planning and construction ecosystem.
The Tamil Nadu government has also indicated that it will introduce further reforms to simplify the entire approval process and improve urban infrastructure development. This move aligns with the broader objective of making the state more attractive to investors and facilitating smoother construction project implementations.
