South Delhi civic body collects Rs 1,075 cr property tax in FY21-22


South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) collected Rs 1,075 crore as property tax in FY 2021-22. The amount had crossed the Rs 1,000 crore mark for the first time.

SDMC had collected property tax of Rs 943 crore and Rs 826 crore in 2020-21 and 2019-20, respectively.

SDMC commissioner Gyanesh Bharti credited the success to the officials who extended all possible help to the taxpayers and made them understand the need of making the payment before the deadline. The corporation has also raised Rs 917 crore as the highest transfer duty.

He told the media that SDMC kept its offices open on Saturdays and last Sunday in March and organised about 900 camps in the municipal wards. It aims to raise the total tax collection to Rs 1,200 crore.

SDMC said that its focus is on the recovery of pending tax and payment of the tax by the government agencies or departments, paid rich dividends.

Assessor and collector of SDMC, Radha Krishan, said that from Rs 620 crore property tax collected by the headquarters, over Rs 100 crore has been received from government organisations.
