Sonowal Reviews Inland Water Projects


Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal visited the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) headquarters to review various inland water transport projects. He emphasized the development of national waterways to enhance passenger and freight movement across the country. Sonowal commended initiatives like the Hybrid Electric Catamaran vessels and India's first Hydrogen Vessel. He also assessed the progress of the Jal Marg Vikas Project on the Ganga River.

Additionally, Sonowal unveiled a five-year action plan focusing on river cruise tourism and collaboration with Northeastern states. The plan aims to increase cargo movement, improve regional connectivity, and promote sustainable transportation through technological advancements and significant investments. This review highlighted the government's commitment to leveraging inland waterways for economic growth and environmental sustainability.
