Rolls-Royce, Triveni Engineering Partner for Marine Gas Turbines

Rolls-Royce Marine North America Inc. and India’s Triveni Engineering and Industries Limited announced today they have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on 4MW marine gas turbine generators (GTG) for the Indian market. The partnership aims to establish end-to-end capabilities in India for design, development, manufacturing, and support of marine GTGs.

The collaboration comes as Rolls-Royce seeks to expand its presence in India’s defence sector. The company currently has over 350 gas turbine generators in active operation with various navies worldwide, including more than 280 with the US Navy alone.

John Shade, EVP for US Business Development at Rolls-Royce Defence, highlighted India as a key strategic growth market for the company. The new 4MW GTGs will deliver 33 per cent more power than their predecessors, the AG9140 generators.

Triveni Engineering, a major player in India’s high-speed gears market, will leverage its five decades of rotary engineering expertise for the project. Tarun Sawhney, Vice Chairman & Managing Director of Triveni, said the company is setting up a new multi-modal Defence facility for manufacturing, integration, and testing of naval marine equipment.

The partnership aligns with India’s push for indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities and could strengthen the country’s naval defence ecosystem.
