Railways plans bullet train services between Nagpur and Mumbai
The Indian Railways have planned bullet train services between Nagpur and Mumbai, which will cover the about 766 km distance in just three and a half hours, along the soon-to-be-ready Samruddhi Expressway. The train is likely to travel at the highest speed of 350 km per hour. Presently, it takes a minimum of 12 hours to travel the same distance. On Saturday, Minister of State for Railways Raosaheb Danve told the media that the development project report (DPR) of the high-speed connectivity project would be ready by February-end. It will be made by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL). They have offered this superfast train along with the Samruddhi Highway project. They have the advantage of already holding 70% of land in their ownership. They have to procure 30% of land from private parties. Union minister Nitin Gadkari told the media that Danve had discussed the project during a meeting and the bullet train would render another good option for transportation between the two cities. From Nagpur up to Igatpuri, the land will not have to be procured as the train would operate adjacent to Samruddhi Highway. From Igatpuri to Mumbai, the land will have to be procured. Danve told the media that farmers would not have to give up land as the entire corridor would be on an elevated track. The train requires a straight corridor. Beyond Igatpuri, there is a curve from where they have to change the train’s path. The DPR report would mention the number of stations on the train’s route. According to the officials close to Danve, the high-speed corridor project was among the seven proposed by the Centre. Work on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad corridor has already begun, and land purchase is nearing completion on the Gujarat side. Image Source
