Railways Launches Rs.20,000 Cr Camera RFP

Indian Railways has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) worth Rs.20,000 crore to install advanced surveillance cameras in train coaches. This initiative, part of a broader modernization strategy, aims to enhance passenger safety and onboard security. The project will equip trains with high-definition CCTV systems integrated with artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities for real-time monitoring and analytics.

The surveillance systems will cover all passenger and crew areas, providing enhanced visibility to detect potential threats, suspicious activities, or emergencies. These cameras are also expected to aid in post-incident investigations and improve operational oversight. Live feeds will be accessible to railway control centers, further strengthening the railways’ security apparatus.

The ambitious project underscores the government’s commitment to upgrading security infrastructure and adopting cutting-edge technology to modernize the rail network. Along with safety enhancements, the initiative is expected to create job opportunities and boost domestic manufacturing under the “Make in India” program.

By addressing critical security gaps, Indian Railways aims to ensure a safer travel experience for millions of passengers daily, positioning the rail network as a benchmark for modern and secure transportation in the region.
