Railways assigning officers as Kashmir links with nation
The General Manager of the Northern Railways issued a letter dated May 29, 2024, to all Principal Heads of Departments (PHODs), requesting them to appoint junior administrative officers in the Kashmir Valley within the next ten days. The purpose of this appointment is to ensure a smooth transition from a construction firm, which has completed the construction of a significant railway section. The letter stated that the train service in the Sangaldan-Srinagar-Baramulla section is operational, and it is anticipated that the section between Sangaldan and SVDK (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra) will soon be commissioned, thereby connecting the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country.
The letter emphasised the importance of having competent officers stationed at Srinagar/Budgam to oversee the operation and maintenance of the section and facilitate the seamless transfer of responsibilities from the Construction Organisation. In light of these developments, the PHODs were instructed to assign competent JAG (junior administrative grade) officers to the valley within the next ten days.
Preparations are underway to commence train services on the Sangaldan-SVDK section by December 2024.
