Pune Metro Line III Completion Likely Delayed to September 2025
Pune Metro Line III, connecting Hinjawadi to Shivajinagar, is now expected to be completed by September 2025, following a request from the concessionaire for an extension. The original target for completion was March 2025. According to PMRDA officials, the delay is mainly due to issues with the integrated flyover component, which was initially set for December 2024 completion but is now projected to finish by March 2025.
The overall 23-km corridor is 74 per cent complete, with the integrated flyover at 65 per cent. The critical ramp and deck slabs are still under construction, and the 1.7-km flyover is expected to be completed by April 2025. Despite multiple review meetings and expedited efforts, heavy traffic and delays in obtaining necessary permissions have hindered progress.
With Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy CM Ajit Pawar overseeing the project, revised timelines will be discussed. The government is also working to address the remaining challenges, including road widening and the relocation of utilities along the University Chowk stretch.
While Metro stations from Maan to Balewadi Highstreet are expected to be operational by April, the University Chowk stretch faces further delays due to the need for road modifications. The government has allocated additional funds to ensure timely completion, with Rs 6 billion (bn) of the Rs 12 bn commitment already released.
