Pune airport to launch direct flights to Dubai and Bangkok from Oct 27
Starting October 27, IndiGo will introduce a daily direct flight from Pune to Dubai and three weekly flights to Bangkok, offering much-needed relief to travelers from Pune. This was announced on X by Murlidhar Mohol, Minister of State for Civil Aviation. While Mohol didn’t specify the airline, Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke confirmed that both routes will be operated by IndiGo.
Another airline had applied for these routes, but IndiGo secured the rights. The flight schedule, including timings and days, will be confirmed soon as part of the winter schedule, Dhoke added.
The introduction of a daily connection to Dubai is expected to benefit Pune and the surrounding region of western Maharashtra, enhancing economic ties with the major financial hub. Additionally, the new flights to Bangkok will provide direct access to a popular tourist destination, further boosting connectivity.
Currently, Pune Airport operates two international flights—one to Dubai by SpiceJet and another to Singapore by Vistara. The Dubai route has been affected by frequent delays due to SpiceJet's financial challenges, often forcing passengers to travel to Mumbai for more reliable connections. Travelers have welcomed the announcement of the new flights, expressing relief over improved options. (ET)
