Phase-1 of Central Vista Avenue to be finished by May 2022

Phase-1 of the revamped Central Vista Avenue will be completed by May 2022, Minister of state for housing and urban affairs Kaushal Kishore told the media.

Initially, Phase-1 of Central Vista Avenue was expected to be ready by 26 January this year.

Minister of state for housing and urban affairs Kaushal Kishore said that the expenditure incurred to date is Rs 418.70 crore.

In February 2021, the redevelopment of the Avenue began, which is a part of the Centre's Rs 13,500 crore Central Vista Redevelopment Project.

The Rs 608 crore revamp work includes the construction of four pedestrian underpasses, eight amenity blocks, relaying of Rajpath, and the pathways along with it and in the lawn.

It also involves improving the canals and building 16 permanent bridges over them, constructing underground utility ducts for electric and other cables, etc.

After republic day was over, the construction work resumed in February. The Central Public Works Department (CPWD), a nodal agency for the redevelopment work, is finishing the eight amenity blocks and four pedestrian underpasses.

The project was to be finished by December 2021. However, the work pace got affected due to rains the previous year and in January.

The Republic Day parade was conducted on the revamped Central Vista for the first time.

The CPWD renovated avenue lawns, paved the pathways along Rajpath and across the lawns with Lakha Granite for it.

It also completed the underground utility duct work for taking all overhead cables underground.

During the parade, the canals were redeveloped, and the 16 bridges over them were also used to give better connectivity among the lawns on both sides of the canals for VIP and VVIP.
