Upon completion, the travel time between CSMT and Karjat is anticipated to decrease by around 30 minutes compared to the existing 130-minute journey via Kalyan. The Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation aims to finalise the project by December 2025, with 46 percent of the work already accomplished.

During the inspection, Member Infrastructure Roop Narayan Sunkar expressed satisfaction and praised the dedication of the field staff. He engaged with project stakeholders and acknowledged the commitment demonstrated in executing this crucial suburban railway corridor. The inspections were conducted alongside MRVC Chairman and Managing Director Subhash Chand Gupta.

Initiated in January 2018, the project has made significant progress, obtaining approvals for detailed estimates, drawings, and designs, including 70 General Arrangement Drawings (GADs) for rail flyovers, tunnels, and stations. Environmental and Social Impact Assessments for stations like Mohope, Chowk, Karjat, Chikhale, and Panvel have also been approved, showcasing meticulous planning.

According to MRVC, land acquisition, a pivotal aspect of large-scale infrastructure projects, has made remarkable strides. Private land covering 57.16 hectares and government land measuring 4.4 hectares has been successfully acquired. Notably, 9.131 hectares of forest land have received clearance, underscoring the project's commitment to environmental sustainability.

Sunil Udasi, Chief Public Relations Officer of MRVC, provided insights into the ongoing works, stating, "Earthwork and bridge construction are in progress, with significant portions already completed. Achievements include completing 13.95 lakh cubic meters of soil earthwork out of the total 20.85 lakh cubic meters. Panvel Station's building construction is underway, with Letters of Acceptance (LOA) issued for various other buildings. Contracts for stations at Chikhale, Mohape, Chowk, and Karjat have been awarded, with active work on Karjat and Mohape already in progress."

Furthermore, progress is evident in the Pune Expressway Rail Under Bridge (RUB), with piling work and pile caps completed. Rail over bridges at Panvel and Karjat are steadily advancing, with structural components such as PSC girders and slabs in various stages of completion. The tunnels, numbered 1, 2, and 3, are taking shape, highlighting the complexity and scale of the project, with notable accomplishments in the primary support and RCC lining works of Tunnel 1.
