Odisha undertakes massive solar project, set to create 3,000 jobs

Odisha is set to see a major green energy push, with Apollo Green Energy investing in solar power and battery storage projects that are expected to create 3,000 direct and indirect jobs. The announcement was made at a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy CM and Energy Minister KV Singh Deo.

The move is part of India’s broader Clean and Green mission and will boost Odisha’s solar capacity while integrating battery storage to improve grid efficiency. Apollo is already building a 54 MWp solar plant in Ganjam, kicking off its renewable energy plans in the state.

Odisha has attracted over Rs 1447 billion in investment commitments so far in 2025, with more than 9 lakh jobs in the pipeline—much of it in green and manufacturing sectors. The state aims to become a major industrial hub while supporting India’s carbon reduction goals.

The project has support from top officials including Energy Secretary Vishal Dev, OPTCL CMD Bhaskar Jyoti Sharma, GRIDCO MD Trilochan Panda, and Apollo’s leadership, as Odisha accelerates its shift to clean energy.
