Odisha to Expand Maritime Infrastructure with New Ports
The Odisha government is planning to develop two new seaports at Inchuri in Balasore and Bahuda in Ganjam districts to complement existing ports at Paradip, Dhamra, and Gopalpur. Industries Secretary Hemant Sharma confirmed that the state government is in talks with PSA Singapore for technical assistance to develop these ports.
The state is also expecting significant industrial investments around Gopalpur and Dhamra ports, with Rs 6,000 crore being invested in a steel plant near Dhamra. Odisha aims to increase its port cargo handling capacity to 500 million tonnes per annum by 2030.
The state has identified these locations after assessing their investment potential, focusing on industrial growth and export expansion, especially in chemical and petrochemical sectors.
