Odisha proposes high speed network to connect Gopalpur to Jeypore in 3.5 hrs

Under the ‘PM Gati Shakti’ yojana, a high-speed road network is set to be developed in Odisha, which will allow travellers to reach Jeypore town in Koraput from Gopalpur in Ganjam within approximately three and a half hours, Works Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan stated.

The planned network will extend across a vast stretch, from Tiring in Mayurbhanj to Motu in Malkangiri district, and aims to connect mining areas, ports, and industrial hubs throughout the state. A high-speed highway from Gopalpur port to Jeypore is also part of the project. Additionally, Minister Harichandan shared that construction on the first phase of the ‘grand ring road’ would commence soon.

Minister Harichandan explained that the ‘PM Gati Shakti’ initiative is facilitating high-speed networks nationwide to enhance transportation and logistics. In alignment with this, a high-speed road connecting Gopalpur to Jeypore—an area now seeing industrial growth driven by mining—will be developed. He mentioned that the project phases were discussed in detail, noting that the journey currently takes around nine hours.

The Minister further added that there are also plans to construct high-speed logistics roads in other regions.
