Odisha Approves Elevated Road for Bhubaneswar Station

The Odisha government has approved the construction of an elevated approach and exit road at Bhubaneswar Railway Station’s Master Canteen side. This project is part of the station’s redevelopment under the Indian Railways’ Amrit Station Scheme.

Key Features of the Station Redevelopment

  • Air-concourse connecting all platforms.
  • Dedicated entry and exit points for better crowd management.
  • Modern amenities including lifts, escalators, and a baggage security check-in area.
  • Enhanced passenger experience with an information center, food plaza, and waiting rooms.
  • The Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) will provide land for the elevated driveway, while additional infrastructure such as parking zones and commercial spaces will be developed within the station premises.

Part of Odisha’s Rs 700 Billion Infrastructure Push

The project is a part of Odisha’s larger Rs 700 billion ($8.4 billion) infrastructure plan, which includes:

  • An elevated corridor from Jayadev Vihar to Nandankanan Zoo to ease congestion.
  • Road expansion along Daya West Canal Road from Patia Station Square to Suanga Mouza.
  • New flyovers at Kalpana Square, Museum Square, and Sishu Bhawan Square, along with an underpass at AG Square.
  • These initiatives aim to modernize Bhubaneswar’s transport network, improve urban mobility, and provide a world-class travel experience for railway passengers.
