NTPC Green Energy buys 370 windmills from Suzlon

Suzlon Ltd, India’s largest windmill manufacturer, had announced that it had secured the largest windmill order in India from NTPC Green Energy Ltd, the renewable energy arm of NTPC, the country’s largest power producer. The windmills were to be installed across three locations in Gujarat, with the aim of powering approximately three million households.

The purchase included 370 wind turbine generators, each with a rated capacity of 3.15 MW, featuring Hybrid Lattice Tubular (HLT) towers. Girish Tanti, Vice Chairman of Suzlon Group, had reportedly stated that the project would become the largest wind energy initiative by a public sector undertaking (PSU) in Gujarat and, once completed, would set a new benchmark for future projects, significantly contributing to India’s energy self-sufficiency and economic prosperity. He had also mentioned that it would help NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) achieve its target of adding 60 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2032.

Suzlon would supply the wind turbines and execute the project, which included erecting the windmills and handling future maintenance activities. According to Suzlon’s press release, two of the orders were from NTPC Green Energy Ltd, while the third was from IndianOil NTPC Green Energy Pvt. Ltd, a subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy Ltd.

JP Chalasani, CEO of Suzlon Group, had commented that this strategic collaboration would become a landmark case study in the sector, highlighting the success of the ‘Make in India’ initiative by promoting local manufacturing and sustainable energy solutions. He added that while this was India’s largest wind energy order, it would be the first of many such transformative projects between the two companies.

Suzlon’s service portfolio in India was reported to be over 14.8 GW, with an additional 6 GW of installed capacity internationally.
