Noida Airport to be linked by expressway, rapid rail, and pod taxi

The construction of Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar airport, was in its final stages, and passenger services were expected to begin in October. The airport would be linked by six roads and a rapid rail-cum-metro, in addition to pod taxis.

Upon completion, the Noida airport was projected to be the largest in India and the third in the National Capital Region (NCR) after Delhi airport and Hindon airbase in Ghaziabad.

A 31-km greenfield expressway was being built to connect the airport to the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway at Ballabhgarh.

The National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) was also constructing a 750-meter eight-lane road to connect the expressway with the airport, according to Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) CEO Arun Vir Singh.

Four of the lanes were likely to open by June 15, while the remaining four might become operational by August 15.

Additionally, three other airport connectivity projects had also been awarded to the NHAI.

An 8.2-km long and 30-meter wide road was being built towards the north and east of the airport at a cost of Rs 630 million and was expected to be ready in eight months, according to Singh. This road would connect the airport cargo terminal with the Yamuna Expressway.

A VIP access road would also be built to reach the Noida Airport from the Yamuna Expressway, stated the YEIDA CEO. This would be used by VIPs and during emergencies.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) of the Rapid Rail-cum-Metro Rail had been approved and sent to the government for its recommendation regarding the funding pattern. A study was being conducted for the pod taxi and monorail, which might take up to two years.
