NMCG sanctioned 43 projects worth Rs 20.56 bn in 2022
In 2022, the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) approved 43 projects at Rs 20.56 billion, bringing the total number of projects approved to 406 worth Rs 328.98 billion.
NMCG executed 50 projects within the same time period, for a total of 224 projects completed.
Between January and November 2022, 25 projects totaling 41 STPs were completed for the creation/rehabilitation of 910 MLD treatment capacity and the construction of a 427 km sewage network. To date, 176 sewage infrastructure projects in the Ganga Basin have been approved, totaling 5,270 MLD treatment capacity and a 5,213 km sewer network.
According to the Ministry of Jal Shakti, the NMCG also organised various public outreach programmes, such as Ganga Quest and Ganga Utsav, which all garnered enormous participation.
By August 2023, 75 events will be held in Ganga and its tributary basin cities and towns, including three-day events in 15 major cities like as Haridwar, Mathura, Delhi, Kanpur, Varanasi, Patna, Bhagalpur, Kolkata, and others, and one-day events in 60 smaller towns/cities.
The focus in 2022 was also on establishing and marketing the 'Arth Ganga' concept, for which various initiatives were launched.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually chaired the National Ganga Council meeting held on December 30 in Kolkata. During the meeting, the PM emphasised ways to enhance various forms of herbal farming along the Ganga.
