NGEF Powers Gujarat Railway Project with 14 High-capacity Transformers
The New Government Electrical Factory (NGEF), Hubballi, renowned for its high-quality electric motors and serving customers both domestically and internationally, has achieved remarkable success in manufacturing electric transformers (TCs) over the years. Recently, the company received an order for high-capacity transformers for the Dahod railway project in Gujarat. In response, NGEF is producing and supplying 14 large transformers to fulfill the requirement. The state-owned company, which specialises in power converters, is now poised to accomplish yet another significant milestone.
Initially, five transformers were manufactured and dispatched from NGEF's Hubballi unit. The remaining nine were produced at its branch in Bathinda, Punjab. These transformers are undergoing testing at the Hubballi headquarters before being sent for deployment in Gujarat. Presently, nine transformers from Bathinda have arrived in Hubballi and are scheduled for inspection by railway officials on January 3 and 4.
SH Naregal, the managing director of NGEF, stated that the company manufactures transformers with capacities of 400 KVA, 500 KVA, 630 KVA, and 800 KVA. He explained that while the unit initially focused on electric motor production, it later diversified into power distribution transformers. Over the years, the unit has supplied transformers to prominent organisations, including the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), HMT Machine Tools in Bengaluru and Hyderabad, National Thermal Power Corporation in Kaiga, as well as various Escoms and Indian Railways.
Naregal further highlighted that the unit, established in 2002-03, originally had the capacity to produce 2,000 motors per month. However, with upgraded facilities, it now produces 300 motors and 1,000 transformers monthly to meet the demands of Escom companies. Additionally, the unit repairs up to 1,250 transformers per month, with the current repair volume standing at 650 transformers as per Escom requirements.
Regarding the Dahod railway project, Naregal mentioned that the order comprises 14 transformers, of which five have already been delivered, with the remaining nine set for dispatch. The railway project, scheduled to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in January, marks another significant achievement for NGEF. Naregal emphasised that the company is continually advancing by taking on critical projects and meeting increasing demand for its transformers.
