MRVC to revamp Mumbai's Harbour Line Stations for Rs 1.3 bn
The Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) is actively engaged in an ambitious plan aimed at the rejuvenation of four key stations situated along the Harbour Line. These stations, namely GTB Nagar, Chembur, Govandi, and Mankhurd, are set to undergo a significant transformation, with an estimated budget of Rs 1.3 billion allocated for this extensive project. It is anticipated that the tendering process for this endeavour will be concluded by October 15.
According to MRVC's Chief Public Relations Officer, Sunil Udasi, the station enhancements encompass various components. These include the construction of additional Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), elevated decks, interconnections between decks/FOBs, the installation of skywalks, and the repositioning of service buildings, stalls, and kiosks. Moreover, improvements to entry and exit areas are planned, along with the integration of green spaces within the station precincts.
For instance, at GTB Nagar station, the proposed developments comprise the construction of a deck that will connect the east and west entrances on the southern end. This deck will feature an Elevated Booking Office, facilitating connectivity to the Road Over Bridge (ROB) and a proposed platform. Additionally, a new Home Platform measuring 275 meters in length and 10 meters in width will be erected on the western side. Furthermore, the existing platform will be extended by 75 meters to the north, and a designated parking area will be established as part of the comprehensive upgrades. Several railway offices will also be relocated to accommodate these changes.
These stations hold immense significance as critical transportation hubs, witnessing an average daily footfall of approximately 45,000 to 55,000 commuters and handling over 425 to 430 trains on a daily basis. The upcoming renovations are aimed at enhancing the overall commuting experience and bolstering the essential infrastructure of these pivotal stations along the Central Railways' Harbour Line.
