MMRDA secures land for Mumbai Metro Line 12 Car Shed and Facilities

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has acquired land to establish a car shed intended for the forthcoming Metro Line 12, a route spanning from Kalyan to Taloja.

Thane Collector Ashok Shingare issued a notice for the allocation of land in Nilje Pada, situated within the Kalyan taluka. This land will serve as the site for various facilities including a depot, a labor camp, a casting yard, a receiving substation, and a plantation.

An official from the MMRDA reported that the collector has allocated a parcel of 47 hectares without any associated cost. This land contribution is in support of a critical public undertaking. Subsequently, a tender will be announced to facilitate the construction of the depot infrastructure, the official confirmed.

The Mumbai Metro Line 12, stretching across 20 kilometres, will predominantly consist of elevated segments and will encompass a total of 17 stations. The comprehensive budget for the Metro Line 12 project amounts to Rs 54.94 billion, with financial backing provided by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). The project is slated for completion by October 2025.
