MMRDA Greenlights Rs 12,500 Crore Infrastructure Projects
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has appointed contractors for nine major infrastructure projects worth Rs 12,500 crore, including the extension of the Eastern Freeway to Thane. The projects, approved by MMRDA's executive committee chaired by Maharashtra Chief Secretary Sujata Sainik, aim to alleviate traffic congestion and enhance connectivity in the region.
Key projects include the Rs 27.27 billion Balkum-Gaimukh Thane Coastal Road, a creek bridge from Kasarvadavali to Kharbao costing Rs 15.25 billion, and the 12.95-km extension of the Eastern Freeway from Ghatkopar to Thane. Additional developments include a foot overbridge at Teen Hath Naka for Rs 680 million, and several other road and bridge projects across Mumbai and Thane.
Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee, MMRDA's metropolitan commissioner, emphasized that these projects will significantly improve traffic flow and drive regional development. Chief Minister Eknath Shinde expressed confidence that these improvements will enhance residents' quality of life and boost the local economy.
