Mining Leases in Scheduled Areas

As per a written reply by Union Minister of Coal and Mines Shri G. Kishan Reddy in the Lok Sabha on April 2, 2025, seven mining leases have been granted in Scheduled Areas of Madhya Pradesh over the last five years (from 2020-21 onwards), covering a total area of 107 hectares. These leases were issued after obtaining all statutory approvals and permissions.

No mining leases have been issued in Scheduled Areas of Gujarat, Rajasthan, or Chhattisgarh during the same period.

Under the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, state governments have the authority to grant mining leases and collect the associated revenues. The rehabilitation of displaced persons due to mining activities also falls under the jurisdiction of the respective state governments.
