MCD Mandates Bulk Waste Registration
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has made it mandatory for bulk waste generators (BWGs) to register under the Solid Waste Management (SWM) Rules, 2016, in a bid to improve waste disposal and reduce landfill pressure. The directive applies to government departments, public sector units, local bodies, and private institutions generating over 100 kg of waste daily.
BWGs must register via the MCD 311 app, available on Android and iOS, and adhere to strict waste segregation norms. This includes processing wet waste on-site while handing over dry and residual waste to authorized MCD collection agencies.
A dedicated MCD team will ensure compliance through inspections and enforcement. The move aligns with a Supreme Court directive stressing strict adherence to waste management regulations.
Violators will face penalties under Schedule II of the SWM Byelaws, 2017. MCD has urged all eligible establishments to register without delay and adopt responsible waste management practices. Registration details and guidelines are available on the MCD website.
