Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders marks 250-year milestone


Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders (MDL) celebrated the completion of 250 years. It started as a small dry dock in 1774 and was incorporated in 1934. Since 1960, it has been under the stewardship of the Government of India.

To commemorate this significant milestone, MDL organized a series of events. These included the inauguration of land acquired from the Mumbai Port Authority (MPA), the unveiling of a prototype of the indigenous midget submarine ?Arowana?, the commissioning of a Solar Electric Hybrid boat, the release of MDL?s Commemorative Coin marking the 250 years, and the hosting of a daylong technical seminar.

Giridhar Aramane, Defence Secretary, was the chief guest at the celebration. He formally inaugurated the piece of land acquired from the Mumbai Port Authority. This facility is intended for the simultaneous construction and outfitting of New Builds, Repairs / Refits of various types of vessels.

The new infrastructure will provide MDL with ample capacity to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
