The initiative aligns with the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy's "Waste to Energy" program, reflecting MSIL?s commitment to sustainable and innovative waste management practices.

In the fiscal year 2024, the company invested Rs 1.20 billion in commissioning renewable energy initiatives such as solar power and biogas. It has pledged to increase this investment approximately fourfold to Rs 4.5 billion over three years starting from 2024-25. According to the company, this will significantly enhance MSIL?s environmental sustainability initiatives.

The pilot plant is designed to produce 0.2 tonne of biogas daily, with an anticipated output of about 1 lac standard cubic meters of biogas in FY 2024-25. This output is expected to offset approximately 190 tonnes of CO2 annually. The energy produced by the pilot biogas plant will be utilised for the manufacturing processes of the company's Manesar facility. Additionally, the residual organic manure will be effectively utilised in horticulture, creating a zero-discharge model, as stated by the company in a media release.
