Lucknow Plans 145-km Ring Road to Keep Heavy Vehicles Out
In a major move to decongest city roads, Lucknow is set to get a 145-km State Capital Ring Road exclusively for heavy vehicles. The bypass aims to divert trucks and trailers away from city limits, easing traffic, reducing accidents, and cutting air pollution.
Planned by the Lucknow Development Authority and Awas Vikas Parishad, land surveys have already begun. The proposed corridor will connect major highways and expressways, enabling seamless freight movement between districts like Kanpur, Varanasi, Ayodhya, Hardoi, and Sultanpur without clogging city roads.
Once operational, the ring road will keep diesel-fuelled trucks out of urban areas, lowering emissions, improving road safety, and making daily commutes smoother. The project is also expected to encourage a shift toward cleaner transport alternatives like electric or CNG trucks in the long run.
