Lucknow Development Body to Install Rooftop Solar Plants in Societies

The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has taken a major step toward promoting sustainability by announcing the installation of rooftop solar plants in 14 of its housing societies. The authority has issued tenders for the installation of these on-grid solar power plants, with capacities that range from 10 kW to 200 kW, depending on the specific needs of each housing society.

The total estimated investment for these solar projects is around Rs 40.5 million. While the initial cost may seem significant, the long-term benefits are expected to be substantial. According to estimates, residents of these housing societies could see a reduction of 70-80 per cent in their electricity bills due to the use of solar energy. This will not only help in lowering electricity costs for the residents but also reduce the overall carbon footprint of the housing societies, aligning with the city’s commitment to sustainable development.

In addition to the housing societies, the LDA also has plans to install a 50 kW solar power plant at Jyotiba Phule Zonal Park, located under the Kanpur Road scheme. This addition is part of a broader initiative by the LDA to make various public spaces in the city more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.

By implementing these solar power projects, the LDA is taking a significant step toward creating a greener and more sustainable future for Lucknow. The initiative will contribute to the city's energy transition, reduce reliance on non-renewable sources, and help mitigate environmental impacts such as air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. Through these efforts, the LDA is working towards making Lucknow a model for renewable energy adoption in urban areas.
